As California becomes the latest state to legalize assisted suicide, Wesley Smith urges defiance.
“The Physicians’ Alliance Against Euthanasia has an excellent declaration that doctors and lay persons can sign….This is in accord with my urging doctors to hang ‘This is an assisted suicide free zone,’ sign in their offices. The proper response to legalized euthanasia/assisted suicide is total non-cooperation. I’ve signed. Have you?”
Danny David of Live Action News reports on the latest from Congress’s Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives, convened to investigate evidence that abortion providers are trafficking in the remains of aborted children. He quotes Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler:
“The Select Panel’s investigation revealed that the Procurement Business technician performs every conceivable task in the harvesting process, immediately after an abortion. For this, the procurement business is charged a fee by the clinic—even though the clinics are not incurring any additional costs in the process. Thus, they are making money off of this horrific act.”
“No one should ever doubt the Left’s commitment to abortion. For the sake of preserving the right to kill an unborn child, the Left will sacrifice democracy and even reason itself. Pro-life lawyers have a term for liberal judges’ tendency to twist the Constitution for the cause of death — the ‘abortion distortion.’ The latest example comes from Nashville, Tenn., where an Obama-appointee federal judge just wrote perhaps the least credible judicial opinion I’ve ever read.” Read the rest of the post…
“It was surreal to hear the mocking laughter, jeers, and mistimed finger snapping from predominantly black students throughout my brief 15-minute presentation. I shared my personal story, dispelled the myth of the ‘unwanted’ child, talked about more black babies being aborted than born alive in NYC (1,180 aborted for every 1,000 born alive), highlighted the 330,000 unarmed black lives aborted each year, and provided historical and statistical context to the issue. It was obvious the more vocal ‘prochoice’ students didn’t want context; they wanted confusion.” Read the rest of the post… [Editor’s note: Mr. Bomberger’s post refers to “seven white men” on the Supreme Court who signed onto Roe v. Wade. In fact, six of those Justices were white; the seventh was Thurgood Marshall, first African-American Supreme Court Justice.]
“I just kept thinking you know, I believe that one day – I have faith – that one day it won’t be me standing here speaking and defending the sanctity of human life. I believe that one day it will be Cecile Richards standing here.” Read the rest of the post…
That was Ryan Bomberger’s opening, not his conclusion, when he spoke to a room full of people at the Values Voter Summit in Washington this year. He had my attention from the start.
I had heard Bomberger once before, at the national March for Life, on a bitter and overcast January day. That was when I first heard of him and his Radiance Foundation. He deals in blunt truths delivered with exuberance and a wry sense of humor. His organization distributes bright, eye-catching handouts with large headings that make the reader stop short. That’s his style: upbeat, challenging, optimistic. “I self-identify as a person who loves the Lord and who loves people enough to tell the truth. Love illuminates.”
He is biracial – “which gives me an interesting perspective on race” – which makes the fact that he’s being sued by the NAACP somewhat curious. The Alliance Defending Freedom has the story about Bomberger’s parody on the NAACP’s name, arising from a 2004 NAACP resolution defending the “right to choose.” The outcome of that piece of litigation ought to be interesting.
He is one of the human beings who could have been aborted under abortion-regulation laws with exceptions for pregnancies resulting from rape. “We need to defend ALL life.” He capitalized “ALL” simply by the force with which he uttered the word.
He wanted his Values Voters listeners to leave with a determination to speak up. “Silence is never an option. Words are revolutionary. That’s why evil does everything it can to silence those words. Remember, God spoke creation into existence. You never know whose shackles will fall off when you use the power of words.”
Never come after Ryan Bomberger as a speaker. If not for my notes, I’d have no idea who came next on the program. His speech is as fresh in my mind now as when I heard it in Washington last month. Quite a challenge, really: reclaim language from abortion advocacy and careless journalism, and use it along with prayer and action to celebrate and defend life.
